Looking at the books I’ve collected over the years, I have to admit that I have some favorites and part of me wants to hold onto them forever. Or at least until someone worthy, like a daughter or even a granddaughter, would appreciate a gift from my heart and soul.

My girlfriend, Robin, wants to collect a bunch of previously loved books and donate them to the senior citizen center library. I think that is a great idea, but I really don’t know if the older people who would be looking through that library would be interested in the kinds of books that I’ve bought and collected over the years.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I would think that most people’s reading interests change as they go through life. Or do older people still read for the sake of adventure stories that let them escape for a day or two? I don’t even know anyone who might be able to answer that question for me. I don’t want to donate a dozen books to just have them collect dust on someone else’s bookshelves.

Ginseng in My Tea

Why is ginseng so popular all of a sudden? When I was shopping for some tea, I noticed that ginseng is included on almost all the different tea flavors. Does it really help the different teas or are we being forced into some kind of ginseng addiction? Are there any true health benefits to ginseng?

I notice the taste of ginseng and I like it, but sometimes I want tea without it. That is getting to be almost impossible to find at my grocery store. Both the hot teas and cold teas list ginseng as an ingredient, and many teas feature it.

Tired Feet

Most days I sit at a desk or I am up and about for an hour here and there. I almost never have to just stand on my feet for 8 or 9 hours. I feel badly for the people who work at jobs like the retail clerks and wait staff who have to be on their feet their entire shift. That must be hard on your legs and feet – and probably your back, too.

I was on the go all day today and it seems like I never sat down at all once I got out of the car. Now my feet are killing me and I can’t bear the thought of standing another hour in the kitchen to cook dinner. I think I will call out for pizza or Chinese tonight. My feet hurt and I’m exhausted!

Wrap Snack

When I worked downtown for the law firm a long time ago, lunch was a big deal. Who you went to lunch with, where you went to eat lunch, and who paid for the lunch were all very political and had to be planned and thought out carefully.

I liked to take the other legal secretaries with me to a little sandwich shop on the riverfront. I can’t remember the name of the shop and its not there anymore, but they served all their sandwiches on your choice of breads, including pita bread and tortilla wraps.

I used to love to order a turkey and swiss wrap and just change up the bread each time to something different. I like something crunchy to go with my sandwich, so I usually ordered a small bag or chips or sometimes a pickle. There are different flavors of tortillas, too, so you could get a lot of variations on a turkey wrap.

Every once in a while I would order an extra wrap and take it back to the office with me for a late afternoon snack or in case I had to work late. We were always having to work crazy hours depending upon the cases we had, so getting something to eat after 5:00 was challenging, because a lot of the lunch places closed plus no one was happy if you left the office to fetch food when you could have been staying put in the office working and helping to get it done so everyone else could go home.

April Showers

boots

The problem with rainy days besides mud and puddles that ruin my good shoes is that the days are just dark and dreary.

I decided to buy some new boots that will help brighten up that day plus save my nice shoes from getting ruined. I love the bright blue color and its actually fun wearing galoshes – it makes me feel like a little kid again!
